Welcome to ICALCom 2026

A conference organized by the Applied Bachelor of English for Business and Professional Communication Study Program at the State Polytechnic of Malang. ICALCom serves as a platform for applied linguists and language educators to share insights and explore innovative approaches in the field of applied linguistics and language education.

Join us for the ICALCom (International Conference on Applied Linguistics and Communication) on October 16th, 2026. This year’s theme, "Artificial Intelligence in Applied Linguistics: AI, Communication, and Human Interaction
," focuses on the role of English in enhancing employability, intercultural communication, and technology-driven language learning, while exploring its impact across various fields such as TESOL, multilingualism, journalism, tourism, and business communication. We are honored to host esteemed plenary speakers, including Prof. Peter I. De Costa, Prof. Ni Wayan Kasni, Assoc. Prof. Sugeng Hariyanto, Assoc. Prof. Meinarni Susilowati, and Assoc. Prof. Peter I. De Costa is a distinguished scholar in the field of applied linguistics and currently serves as a Professor of Applied Linguistics at Michigan State University, United States. He is internationally recognized for his research contributions to second language acquisition, language education, TESOL, and critical applied linguistics. His academic work explores the complex relationship between language learning, identity, emotion, social context, and issues of power within multilingual and educational environments. His research interests include second language learner identity, language teacher identity, emotions in language learning and teaching, translanguaging, language policy, and research ethics in applied linguistics. Prof. De Costa has contributed extensively to the understanding that language learning is not only a cognitive process but also a social practice shaped by cultural, institutional, and ideological factors. Prof. De Costa has authored and edited numerous scholarly publications addressing contemporary issues in applied linguistics, including language teacher development, critical perspectives on language education, and ethical approaches to language research.
