Prof. Peter I. De Costa is a distinguished scholar in the field of applied linguistics and currently serves as a Professor of Applied Linguistics at Michigan State University, United States. He is internationally recognized for his research contributions to second language acquisition, language education, TESOL, and critical applied linguistics. His academic work explores the complex relationship between language learning, identity, emotion, social context, and issues of power within multilingual and educational environments. His research interests include second language learner identity, language teacher identity, emotions in language learning and teaching, translanguaging, language policy, and research ethics in applied linguistics. Prof. De Costa has contributed extensively to the understanding that language learning is not only a cognitive process but also a social practice shaped by cultural, institutional, and ideological factors. Prof. De Costa has authored and edited numerous scholarly publications addressing contemporary issues in applied linguistics, including language teacher development, critical perspectives on language education, and ethical approaches to language research.
