Biography
Dr. Hj. Meinarni Susilowati, M.Ed., is a senior Indonesian scholar and lecturer in the field of applied linguistics at Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang (UIN Malang), East Java, Indonesia. She is recognized for her academic contributions to linguistics, English language education, sociolinguistics, and discourse studies. She serves as a lecturer in the English Literature Program at the Faculty of Humanities, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, where she contributes to teaching, research, and academic development in language studies.
Her academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Language and Arts Education from IKIP Negeri Jakarta, a Master’s degree in TESOL International from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, and a Doctoral degree in English Language Education from Universitas Negeri Malang. Her expertise includes pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and discourse analysis, with research interests focusing on how language functions within social, educational, and cultural contexts.
Dr. Susilowati’s research contributions include studies on identity construction, classroom interaction, discourse practices, gender and language issues, and English language teaching. Her publications have explored topics such as student identity reconstruction in classroom interactions, linguistic approaches to identity investigation, character education in English teaching, and ideological dimensions of public discourse.
In addition to her teaching and research activities, Dr. Susilowati actively contributes to the development of applied linguistics in Indonesia. She was elected as Chairperson of the Asosiasi Linguistik Terapan Indonesia (ALTI) for the 2024–2027 period, reflecting her recognition as an academic leader in the field of applied linguistics. She has also been involved in scholarly activities as a reviewer, speaker, and contributor to academic forums related to language education and linguistics.
Through her sustained academic work, Dr. Hj. Meinarni Susilowati has established herself as one of Indonesia’s notable applied linguists whose scholarship connects linguistic theory with educational practice, identity studies, and social perspectives on language use. Her work contributes to strengthening the role of applied linguistics in understanding communication, learning, and social interaction within Indonesian and international contexts.
